POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (November 13, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's fencing team went 6-2 Sunday against its eight opponents at the 2016 Vassar Invitational.
Stevens topped Hunter 20-7, Lafayette 22-5, Army 24-3, Yeshiva 23-4, Sacred Heart 14-13, and Incarnate Word 18-9. The win against Sacred Heart was the first in program history against the Division I power.
Against Sacred Heart, junior
Ian Fan and sophomore
Gregory Milani each went 3-0 to key the Ducks big victory.
Jeffrey Paine also turned in a 2-1 afternoon in the matchup, providing the Ducks with the extra points it needed for the win.
Fan and Milani went 11-8 and 12-5 respectively for the day.
Other standout Stevens performances included a 13-5 day at foil for sophomore
George Allen, in addition to sophomore
Ryan Edelstein's 11-6 mark. Sophomore
Timothy Steinberg went 11-10 at sabre to go along with Fan's successful afternoon.
Senior
Stephen Rienzi went 11-6 at epee, while sophomore
Antonio Fuda went 9-4. Sophomore
Brennan Casey finished 13-5 to round out Stevens top performers.
