Men’s Soccer Falls In Shootout To Fisher

HOBOKEN, N.J. (November 4, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team fell in a shootout to St. John Fisher Friday night in the semifinal of the Empire 8 Conference semifinal.

Fisher advanced by way of a 6-5 margin in the PK period as sophomore Haddy Abdelhady's attempt rattled off the post.

Stevens outshot the Cardinals 13-4 in the defensive affair, including a 4-1 margin in shots on goal.

Stevens recorded a pair of shots in the match's first seven minutes that never reached Fisher keeper Joe Catalfamo, before sophomore Daniel Aversano's attempt in the 15th minute sailed high.

Fisher enjoyed its best chance of the half off a set piece in the 38th, but John Maroney's header went wide of the post as the match remained scoreless heading into the break.

Neither side had many good chances in the second before senior Jonas Melendez's header off a cross moved just wide of the post. Sophomore Andrew Masur registered a header of his own in the 82nd, but Catalfamo made the save behind a packed in defense as regulation ended without a score.

Aversano ripped a pair of shots early in the first overtime, while each side traded blows in the second setting up the shootout win for Fisher.
