Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's basketball edged by Haverford, 56-49

HAVERFORD, Pa. (December 3, 2016)  – A 12-2 fourth-quarter run by Haverford College proved to be the difference as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team fell to the Fords, 56-49 in non-conference play Saturday afternoon.

Senior Kaitlyn Astel led the Ducks with 20 points and junior Anna Toke's 15 rebounds were a game-high, but after a sizzling start, the Ducks shot 25 percent from the field (10-for-40) in the second half in dropping their fourth straight to fall to 0-4.

Macy Goldbach led all players with 21 points and Sierra Berkel added 10 for Haverford, who won its third straight to improve to 4-3.

Turning Point
  • Trailing 52-47, Toke snagged her seventh offensive rebound of the afternoon
  • The junior banked in a layup and drew contact to pull the Ducks to within three
  • Toke missed the ensuing free throw, but the Ducks were able to retain possession
  • Off the inbounds play, freshman Zoe Hahn was unable to convert the basket and the rebound was secured by Haverford's Katie Cook
  • Goldbach converts her eighth field goal of the game to give the Fords a 54-49 edge

Inside the Numbers
  • Hot shooting by Stevens allowed the Ducks to open an 11-point second quarter lead, the largest for either team
  • The game had seven ties and six lead changes. Haverford's largest lead was the final margin of victory
  • Stevens held the edge in points in the paint (16-14) for the second time this season. The Ducks held 32-20 edge over NYU on Nov. 15
  • The Ducks outrebounded the Fords, 20-16 on the offensive glass
  • Toke blocked a game-high three shots, eclipsing her season total in a single afternoon

Unsung Heroes
  • Hahn played a career-high 32 minutes and contributed 13 points and six rebounds with a pair of steals and two blocks
  • Sophomore Elena Sanchez saw her first action of the 2016-17 season and had four points

Quotables
  • "We need to continue to improve,' said head coach Megan Haughey. "Our offensive struggles carried over to the defensive end of the floor down the stretch, which cannot happen."
  • "I thought we got a ton out of bench, which is a positive leaving today,," Haughey added.

Up Next
  • The Ducks close out 2016 with a non-conference road matchup at DeSales University on December 7. The Ducks defeated the Bulldogs, 64-53, on December 9, 2015.
