ROCHESTER, N.Y. (February 26, 2016) - Despite double-digit scoring efforts from three different players, the Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team fell in the Empire 8 Conference Championship semifinal Friday night, 85-62 to top-seeded St. John Fisher College.
The loss ends Stevens' season at 12-14, while Fisher (21-5), will move on to tomorrow's final.
Junior
Evan Klimchak led the Ducks with 18 points to go along with four steals and three rebounds, while senior
Alex Lorenz scored 14 with eight boards. Junior
Patrick Barron chipped-in with 10 points and five rebounds.
As a team, the Ducks shot 85 percent from the line, and forced 12 Fisher turnovers.
A Lorenz jumper five minutes in tied the game at eight, before Kilmchak's layup during the 13-minute mark put Stevens up a pair. Fisher responded with a jumper of its own however, starting a 12-3 to put the Ducks down nine midway through the half.
Fisher maintained its lead over the next several minutes before extending it to 16 off a three with four to go. A jumper from freshman
Kevin Florio two minutes later cut the deficit to 12, but a Fisher free-throw in the closing seconds gave the Cardinals a 13-point advantage heading into the break.
A 7-0 Cardinals run to start the second put the Ducks down 20, before a three midway through the half made it 24. A 5-0 Stevens spurt got the Ducks back to within 17, but it's as close as they would get the rest of the night.
