CLERMONT, Fla. (March 25, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology softball team fell 5-1 to No. 25 University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, before dropping game two to Hope College, 9-2.
The losses dropped Stevens to 8-4 for the season, while Oshkosh and Hope moved to 8-4 and 9-3 respectively.
Oshkosh 5, Stevens 1After a scoreless first to open the game, Oshkosh grabbed the lead with two in the bottom of the second keyed by a one-out RBI double.
The Ducks got one back in the third with sophomore
Corinne Loncar's two-out RBI double to score senior
Gavriella Risman-Jones, but went down scoreless in the fourth and fifth to stay in a one-run hole.
Oshkosh took advantage of the scoring drought with three in the sixth off two hits and a pair of errors, and sent the Ducks down in order in the seventh to seal the win.
Loncar led the Ducks with a 2-for-3 day from the plate, while freshman starter
Christine LaRochelle surrendered just two earned runs with two strike outs in the complete-game effort.
Hope 9, Stevens 2A two-out double in the top of the first gave Hope the early two-run lead, but the Ducks answered back with Sellitti's solo homer in the bottom of the second to cut the deficit in half.
Both teams traded zeroes in the third to hold the 2-1 score, before Hope put together a five-run rally in the fourth off six hits to grow the lead to six.
Stevens got one back in their half of the inning off an RBI single from junior
Jessica Rees, but it's all the scoring the Ducks would do as Hope worked around a pair of base runners in the fifth before the rain washed-out the game in the seventh.
Rees led the Ducks offensively with two hits and an RBI, while Sellitti went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Sophomore
Olivia Gemma suffered her first loss of the season in a three-strike out performance.
UP NEXTThe Ducks will be back in action Wednesday with a doubleheader at New York University starting at 3 p.m.
