HOBOKEN, N.J. (March 26, 2016) - Ithaca College scored with 56 seconds remaining in regulation Saturday afternoon to seal a 14-13 win over the Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team in Hoboken.
The loss dropped Stevens' record to 2-4 (0-1), while Ithaca moved to 5-2 (2-1).
Junior
Kathleen Kalbian led the Ducks offensively with five goals off seven shots, while junior
Mary Beth Irwin and senior
Erika Wilcox each scored four. Junior
Caroline DeLuca scooped-up three ground balls, and Kalbian caused three turnovers.
As a team, the Ducks outshot Ithaca 26-21, and won the draw control battle 19-10.
Ithaca jumped out to the early four-goal lead with four scores over the first 10 minutes of action, before Irwin ended the run with two during a three minute stretch to cut the deficit in half. Kalbian followed-up with a free-position goal during the 13-minute mark, followed by Wilcox's first of the game three minutes later.
The Bombers regained the lead with a free-position goal one minute later, but Kalbian's unassisted score shortly after tied the game at five before Ithaca went back in front with Riley Marion's unassisted goal.
Kalbian scored the final two goals of the first half to put the Ducks in front by one, before Wilcox and Irwin grew the lead to three with a pair of goals to open the second.
Ithaca responded however, scoring five of the next six over the next 12 minutes to go up one with 15 minutes to go. Kalbian connected on the equalizer though, followed by a pair of goals from Wilcox to put the Ducks up 13-12 with 9:32 remaining.
It's the final lead Stevens would hold on the afternoon however as Ithaca scored a pair of goals over the final six minutes while holding the Ducks scoreless, sealing the 14-13 loss.
The Ducks will return to action this Thursday when they host Stockton University at 4 p.m. at the De Baun Athletic Complex.
