HOBOKEN, N.J. (March 5, 2016) – The No. 5 Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team topped No. 8 Elmira College and Bard College Saturday.
The Ducks moved to 17-4 and 4-2 in United Volleyball Conference action.
No. 5 Stevens 3, No. 8 Elmira 8 (25-20, 25-23, 26-28, 25-18)In the three sets the Ducks won, they hit over .333 while holding the Soaring Eagles to under .286 in every set. During the fourth and deciding set, Elmira was held to .100 while committing eight attack errors.
The Soaring Eagles went up 13-11 after a 3-0 run in the first set, the Ducks battled back to knot things up. After seeing the score even at 14, 15, 16 17, and 18, Stevens used a 3-0 spurt to pull ahead for good. Back-to-back kills by senior

Gabe Shankweiler handed the opening set to Stevens.
Elmira scored the first three points of set two forcing the Ducks into a timeout. The timeout rejuvenated Stevens, as they responded to even the frame at four. Shankweiler and a Soaring Eagle attack error even the set at 14. Another Soaring Eagle attack brought up set point, but Elmira rattled off four straight. Junior
Jordan Stuart ended the set with a kill putting Stevens up 2-0.
The Ducks had three attempts to win the third set, but were unable to capitalize, dropping the third set. After a Dylan Kuhn kill evened the fourth set at seven, the Ducks took the lead over for good. Sophomore

Scott Russell combined for back-to-back blocks during a mid-set 4-0 rally.
Elmira cut the deficit down to 18-15, but the Ducks rattled off five straight, capped off with a kill from senior
Chris Vaughan. The Ducks took the match after a Soaring Eagle service error.
Shankweiler and Feritter each had 15 kills, with Ferriter contributing a team-high 11 digs. Stuart and Burrell combined for 13 total blocks, with Vaughan hammering home 14 kills as well.
No. 5 Stevens 3, Bard 0 (25-10, 25-20, 25-21)The Duclks completely dominated the opening set, holding Bard to a -.156 attack percentage. With the score 8-4, freshman
Jacob Stillman served up four straight, taking advantage of four unforced errors. In total, the Raptors had 10 attack in the first period alone.
Despite falling behind 12-6 in set one, the Raptors scored five straight to cut the gap to one. The Raptors eventually went ahead 17-16, but the lead was short lived. A kill by junior
Ian Bennett gave the Ducks the set, and went up 2-0 in the match. The Ducks scored six straight in the third set to open the third period, but Bard clawed all the way to tie the frame at 21. The Ducks would close out with four straight points to end the match, with freshman
Pasquale Gencarelli and senior
Scott Wright notching kills.
The Ducks will welcome UC-Santa Cruz to Hoboken tomorrow with a 1:30 p.m. match.
