WEEHAWKEN, N.J. (April 10, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology softball team walked-off against Elmira College to win game one 3-2 Sunday, before exploding for six runs in the sixth inning in a 6-3 win in game two.
The sweep moved Stevens to 14-8 (5-3), while Elmira fell to 4-4 (2-4). The Ducks hosted their Strike Out Cancer day during the doubleheader, raising money via pledges for strikeouts and game-day donations.

Brianna Sandone sent down the order scoreless in the first, allowing the Ducks to build the lead with two in the second.
Sophomore
Lauren Shirley drove in the first with an RBI single to left center to score senior
Gavriella Risman-Jones, followed two batters later by an RBI single from sophomore
Olivia Gemma to score sophomore
Farryl Groder.
Elmira cut the lead in half with a run in the third, but Sandone took control from there with scoreless frames in the fourth, fifth and sixth. Elmira did tie the game after pushing across a run in the seventh, but Stevens answered in the bottom of the inning to clinch the walk-off.
With sophomore pinch runner
Cara Napolitano on second, Sellitti ripped a double off the right-field fence to drive in the winning run.
Sandone picked-up the win, scattering five hits in the complete game effort, while Risman-Jones, Groder, Gemma, and Rees each added a pair of hits.
Stevens 6, Elmira 2Both pitchers got off to commanding starts as Gemma retired the side in order in the first and second before working around a two-out single in the third. Elmira finally broke through with a run in the sixth, but Stevens roared back with six in its half of the inning.
Junior
Gina Schnecker started the rally after getting hit by a pitch to lead-off the inning, and reached second after Risman-Jones' bunt single in the next at bat. Shirley followed by driving in Schnecker two batters later, before Gemma helped her own cause with a three-run homer to left.
Freshman
Madison Telles broke the inning open two batters later with a two-run shot to center to put Stevens up 6-1.
Elmira cut into the lead with two in the seventh off a home run, but Gemma rebounded by inducing a ground out and fly out to end the game.
Gemma and Telles provided the bulk of the offense with their respective home runs, while Gemma struck out four and went the distance to earn her third win of the season.
UP NEXTThe Ducks will kick-off a three-doubleheader road trip Tuesday night with two against the College of Staten Island.
