GLENSIDE, Pa. (April 13, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team outscored Arcadia University 14-1 in the first half Wednesday en route to a 17-5 road win.
The win moved Stevens to 7-5, while Arcadia fell to 4-7.
Junior
Kathleen Kalbian scored three goals with two assists in addition to six draw controls, while senior
Erika Wilcox scored three goals with five draw controls. Junior
Mary Beth Irwin and sophomore
Cami Santor both scored twice.
In all, 11 different Ducks scored goals, and Kalbian recorded the 100th of her career.
The Ducks outshot Arcadia 23-7, including a 21-6 margin in shots on goal, and tallied 19 draw controls to Arcadia's four. Led by junior
Betsy Crossland, the Ducks defense caused 10 Arcadia turnovers.
Junior
Caroline DeLuca and Wilcox gave the Ducks the early lead with goals in the opening three minutes, but Arcadia answered two minutes later with a free-position goal to slice the lead in half.
Junior
Mariel Haubrich and Wilcox responded with goals for Stevens however, before two from Santor extended the lead to 6-1 with 10 minutes to go in the half. Kalbian and Irwin each scored twice over the next eight minutes to put Stevens up nine, before Wilcox, freshman
Mackenzie Metzler, and sophomore
Bridget Reed extended the lead to 12.
Sophomore
Julianna Ricci capped the half with a goal in the closing seconds, before Kalbian answered an early second-half goal from Arcadia with one of her own off a feed from Metzler.
Arcadia scored three of the next four to pull within 11 with 4:54 on the clock, but it's as close as they would get the rest of day as Junior
Laura Roberts put an exclamation point on the win with a goal in the final two minutes of regulation.
The Ducks will return to Empire 8 Conference play this weekend with games against Nazareth College and No. 17 St. John Fisher College.
