WEEHAWKEN, N.J. (April 20, 2016) – Stevens Institute of Technology softball sophomore
Olivia Gemma belted a three-run home run in the sixth inning of game two Wednesday in a 9-0, run-rule shortened win over St. Joseph's College.
Combined with a 5-2 win in game one, the Ducks (19-13) sealed their fourth sweep of the season. St. Joseph's fell to 17-13 with the losses.

Gemma worked three-straight scoreless frames to open the game, before the Ducks built their lead with a multi-run inning in the third. Senior
Gavriella Risman-Jones scored the initial run off a St. Joseph's error, followed by an RBI double from Gemma.
Sophomore
Lauren Shirley capped the inning in the next at-bat with a two-run homer down the left-field, giving the Ducks the 4-0 lead heading into the fourth.
St. Joseph's responded with two in the fifth, but Stevens answered in its half of the inning after junior
Emily Sellitti scored on sophomore
Farryl Groder's double to make it 5-2.
The runs were enough for Gemma who stranded a pair of base runners in the sixth before retiring the side in order in the seventh to seal the victory.
Gemma struck out three in the complete game effort, while Risman-Jones went 4-for-4 at the plate. Shirley and Groder combined for three hits and three RBIs.
Stevens 9, St. Joseph's 0
Both teams traded zeroes through the first two innings before the Ducks broke through with four in the third. Sophomore
Corinne Loncar and Gemma sparked the rally with back-to-back RBI doubles, before junior
Jessica Rees smacked a two-run homer to left center.
Stevens tacked-on two runs of insurance in the fifth off an RBI double from Rees and a St. Joseph's error off the bat off freshman
Madison Telles, putting the Ducks up 6-0.
The lead was plenty for senior starter
Brianna Sandone as the veteran hurler retired the side in order in the sixth before Gemma clinched the win with her homer in the bottom of the inning.
Sandone scattered just two hits in the three strike out complete game, while Risman-Jones, Loncar, Gemma, and Rees each tallied multi-hit games. Gemma's four RBIs led all hitters.
