HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 23, 2016) – Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse senior
Erika Wilcox scored her 200th career goal five minutes into regulation Saturday in the Ducks 16-4 win over Hartwick College.
Wilcox is just the third player in the history of the program to achieve the milestone, joining
Valerie Barnhart and Alyssa Pigott.
The win moved Stevens to 9-6 (6-2), while Hartwick fell to 4-9 (1-5). Prior to the game, Stevens honored its five seniors in Wilcox,
Mackenzie Swartout,
Angela Bauroth,
Amanda Kowalski, and
Melissa Conklin.
Wilcox led all scorers with six goals off seven shots to go along with a pair of assists and four ground balls, while junior
Kathleen Kalbian scored three goals with an assist. Freshman
Mackenzie Metzler chipped-in with two goals, and junior
Mariel Haubrich scored once with two assists.
Sophomore
Victoria Alvarez caused two turnovers to lead a Ducks defensive unit that forced 20 Hartwick turnovers, in what was the sixth opponent held to five goals or less for Stevens this season.
As a team, the Ducks dominated the draw 16-6, in addition to a 30-19 margin in ground balls.
Wilcox's milestone goal gave the Ducks the early lead, before Haubrich, Kalbian and Wilcox combined for three unanswered to build the lead to four. Metzler got into the scoring with her first score of the game just over midway through the half, followed by another to make it 6-0.
Wilcox tallied two more to balloon the lead the eight, but Hartwick responded with three unanswered to slice the lead to five. Stevens responded with two quick ones out of a timeout however, before Swartout connected on the score in the final minutes to send Stevens into the half up 11-3.
Junior
Cami Santor and Kalbian quickly continued the Stevens run early in the second, before Wilcox's free-position goal with 24:40 on the clock put Stevens up 14-3.
Hartwick got one back near the midpoint of the half, but it's all the scoring they would do the rest of the afternoon as sophomore
Bridget Reed and junior
Jess Leiby put the finishing touches on the rout with their first goals of the game late in regulation.
The Ducks will close out their regular season next Saturday with a 1 p.m. game at Elmira College.
