HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 3, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team put-up its first shutout since 2007 Sunday in a dominant 18-0, Empire 8 Conference win over Alfred University in Hoboken.
The win was the third in-a-row for the Ducks, raising their record to 5-4 (2-1), while Alfred fell to 4-7 (0-3) with the loss.
The Ducks last shutout came in a 15-0 win over Trinity University (D.C.) on April 22, 2007, and the 18-goal margin was the biggest since the Ducks beat College of Mt. St. Vincent 19-1 in the 2014 season opener.

Kathleen Kalbian led the Ducks with four goals off six shots, while junior

Bridget Reed each scored twice. Junior
Mariel Haubrich tallied four assists and a goal, and scooped-up two ground balls.

Angela Bauroth each tallied a save to combine for the shutout in the cage.
Stevens dominated offensive possession throughout the game, out-shooting Alfred 39-6 including a 27-2 margin in shots on goal. Defensively the Ducks forced 18 Alfred turnovers, and held the Saxons to 4-for-11 on clears.
After going scoreless over the game's first five minutes, Wilcox connected on a free-position shot to give Stevens the 1-0 lead. Kalbian and freshman
Mackenzie Metzler followed with scores soon after, before Roberts' free-position goal with 14 minutes remaining put Stevens up 4-0.
Wilcox continued the run with a goal off a feed from Haubrich two minutes later, before goals from Reed and Leiby made it 7-0. Kalbian and Metzler ballooned the advantage to nine with 6:30 to go, followed by Haubrich's goal to end the half.
Kalbian and Irwin quickly made it 12-0 with scores three minutes into the second, before two more from Irwin and Roberts put the Ducks up 14 with 21:39 remaining.
Reed converted her free-position opportunity shortly after, followed by goals from Kalbian and senior
Mackenzie Swartout to cap the scoring at 18.
The Ducks will close-out their homestand Tuesday when they host No. 3 The College of New Jersey at 7 p.m.
