No. 3 TCNJ Tops Women’s Lacrosse

HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 5, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team fell 9-2 Tuesday night to No. 3 The College of New Jersey at the De Baun Athletic Complex in Hoboken.

The loss evened Stevens' record at 5-5, while TCNJ moved to 9-1.

Senior Erika Wilcox scored both goals for Stevens, one of which came off an assist from junior Kathleen Kalbian. Wilcox and Kalbian also combined for five draw controls, in addition to two from junior Mary Beth Irwin. Sophomore Stephanie Schnelzer made six saves in the cage.

As a team, the Ducks tallied 16 ground balls and beat TCNJ on the draw 8-5.

Wilcox grabbed the early lead for the Ducks with an unassisted goal three minutes into regulation, but TCNJ responded with a pair of goals starting five minutes later to take the 2-1 lead.

Wilcox knotted the game at two during the 19th minute off a feed from Kalbian, before TCNJ regained the lead one minute later. Two more goals from the Lions put the Ducks in a three-goal hole heading into the second, where the TCNJ offense played keep-away to keep the 5-2 score on the board late into the half.

The Lions added one more with 15:24 on the clock, followed nearly 10 minutes later by another to build the deficit to five. Two more goals from TCNJ in the final three minutes, combined with holding the ball on the offensive possession sealed the Stevens loss.

The Ducks will be back in action Saturday when they travel to Utica College for a 1 p.m. start.
