HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 30, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team was outscored 7-1 in the fourth quarter and fell 17-15 to Nazareth College on Saturday.
The Ducks fell to 13-4, 6-2 in the Empire 8 Conference, while Naz moved to 12-5, 7-1 in the E8. The two teams will meet again on Wednesday in the E8 Conference Tournament at Nazareth at 4 p.m.
Stevens came out firing, scoring three goals in the first 8:04 of the game. Seniors
Andrew Scrutchfield,
Matt Ferentini and
Michael Serrante all netted goals, but Nazareth roared back with three of their own to even the game. Sophomore
Tommy Dawson scored with just five seconds left in the frame to put the Stevens up 4-3.
Junior
Connor McKeon extended the Duck lead with a man-up goal, but Naz countered with a man-up marker of their own. Freshman
Max Bailey, Ferentini and senior
Tim Fair netted goals to push the lead to four, but the Golden Flyers Matt O'Neill cut the lead in half with a pair of man-up goals late in the first half.
Two goals in 28 seconds to open third put Stevens back up by three, but O'Neill completed his hat trick 2:48 into the period. Dawson and classmate
John Boutureira scored to give the Ducks their biggest lead of the afternoon, but once again the visitors countered with three straight. Bailey and senior
Connor O'Shea tallied markers just before the third quarter ended, sending Stevens into the final 15 with a four goal lead.
The Golden Flyers scored three times in the opening 5:50 of the fourth quarter, junior
Connor Towne ended the run off a feed from Bailey. But Nazareth would score the final four goals, including three on a three minute non-releasable penalty to seal the game.
Bailey and Ferentini each had four points, while senior
Brett Incollingo won 16 faceoffs and had 10 ground balls. Fair netted his first goal of the season, while Towne chipped in a pair of goals. Freshman
Carson White made 12 saves in the setback.
Luke Wooters had three goals and an assist, while Joe Eiskant also netted a hat trick.
Prior to the game, the Ducks honored the 12 seniors as part of a Senior Day ceremony.
