HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 17, 2016) – Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey senior
Nolie Prouty scored with 10 seconds remaining in regulation Saturday, sending the Ducks to a pivotal 2-1 win over Ithaca College.
The win moved Stevens to 4-2 (2-0), while Ithaca fell to 2-3 (2-1).
Freshman
Michaela Thompson connected on Stevens' other goal off a feed from junior
Katti Thomasian, while senior goalie
Emily Stukenborg made five saves in goal.
As a team, the Ducks outshot Ithaca 15-9 including an 11-6 margin in shots on goal.
Stevens took early control of the action with five shots over the game's first 18 minutes, before breaking through in the 21st with Thompson's score. Thomasian delivered the opportunity with a shot from the top of the scoring zone, where Thompson got her stick on the ball to send the deflection into the back on the cage.
The Ducks defense went to work from there, limiting Ithaca to just one shot over the final 14 minutes to send the game into the break with the lead.
Stevens' defense continued to come up big in the second keyed by a save from Stukenborg in the 48th minute, but continued Ithaca pressure finally paid off in the 55th when the Bombers connected on the equalizer.
Stukenborg kept Ithaca off the board from there with a save in the 57th, before four Stevens shots failed to reach the back of the cage in the final three. Stevens continued the pressure with a pair of corners in the final minute, before Prouty connected on the game-winner out of a scrum in front of the cage.
The Ducks will be back in action Wednesday when they travel to Cabrini College.
