HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 24, 2016) – Senior
Raba Nassif scored two first half goals to lead the No. 7 Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Nazareth Saturday.
The Ducks move to 7-0-0, 2-0-0 in the Empire 8 Conference, while Naz fell to 4-2-2, 0-1-0 in the E8.
Stevens wasted no time, tallying the first goal on their third shot of the afternoon. Nassif intercepted a goal kick and moved into the Naz end with no defenders in front and ripped a high shot past the keeper. Just over six minutes later, the senior added her second, taking a beautiful pass from sophomore
Olivia Butera. Nassif moved around the defense and beat the keeper for her third multi-goal game of the season.
The Stevens defense was tough, holding Naz to just three shots in the opening 45. The Golden Flyers broke through in the 57th minute. After a breakdown, Laura Herman slid a shot into the top right corner, dicing the Ducks lead to 2-1.
A header by Stevens junior
Sammy Mount just sailed over the crossbar in the 67th minute, and Naz had a chance to answer in the 70th minute. Julia Delgatti ripped a shot that sophomore
Madi Chollett made a sprawling save to stave off the attempt. The Golden Flyers were unable to capitalize the remainder of the game, mustering just two shots.
Nassif led Stevens with five shots, while Mount and senior
Carly Bean each fired two.
The Ducks will be back in action Wednesday with a road game against Drew.
