MADISON, N.J. (September 28, 2016) – Freshman
Gabriella Saade recorded her first career hat trick to lead the No. 7 Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team to a 6-0 victory over Drew Wednesday.
The Ducks moved to 8-0 on the year, while Drew fell to 4-4-1.
Stevens opened the scoring in the 12th minute, as sophomore
Zisi Komar received a long through ball from senior
Carly Bean, weaved to the middle of the field and fired from about 18 yards out to give the Ducks a lead. Komar nearly doubled the advantage in the 27th minute, but sliding attempt sailed over the net.
That was the only marker Stevens scored in the first 45, despite outshooting the Rangers 11-1. Komar added her second of the contest at the 47:05 mark, converting a short through pass from senior
Gabby Mathelier. Just 56 seconds later, Saade tallied her first of the night from Komar.
In the 54th minute, Saade and Mathelier connected again, with Saade depositing a one-touch pass from the senior past the Rangers keeper. The rookie from West Windsor, N.J. completed the hat trick in the 60th minute with an unassisted marker, before classmate
Julia Panko finished the scoring in the 67th minute. Drew's best chance came in the 69th minute, but a shot by Caroline Kelly was snared by sophomore
Madi Chollett.
Chollett and junior Lindsey Manhken combined to make two saves in the shutout, while Komar and Saade each fired six shots. Mathelier finished with a pair of assists with senior
Raba Nassif also adding a helper.
The Ducks are back in action Saturday for Homecoming, taking on St. John Fisher.
