HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 6, 2016) – The No. 14 Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team picked up its third straight win with a 7-0 blanking of Mount St. Mary College Tuesday.
Stevens used a strong first half to construct a 3-0 lead heading into halftime. At the 11:11 mark, junior
Sammy Mount fed senior
Raba Nassif, who quickly threatened the ball through to sophomore
Zisi Komar. Komar hammered the pass directly into the back of the net for her third marker of the season. The Ducks (3-0-0) kept the pressure up, drilling the post and crossbar multiple times during the opening 45 minutes.
Two minutes after the Komar tally, freshman
Julia Panko netted her second of the year. Panko moved into the box and fired a strike that rippled the mesh and doubled the Ducks lead. With just over 15 minutes left in the period, Empire 8 Conference Offensive Player of the Week
Gabby Mathelier tallied her fourth marker of the season to push the lead to three.
The Ducks doubled the lead in the second stanza, scoring three times before 20 minutes had eclipsed off the scoreboard. Nassif was on the receiving end of a Panko pass and scored on a partial breakaway. Just three minutes later, freshman
Gabriella Saade notched her first career goal, corralling a Panko pass and beating the keeper.
30 seconds later, Nassif knocked home a pass from junior
Gabby Pagkalinawan for her second multiple goal game of the season. With a shade over seven minutes left in the contest, Mathelier recorded her second of the game after hitting a shot that glanced off the keeper's hands.
Stevens peppered the Knights (0-3-0) with 27 shots in the game, limiting their opponents to four in each stanza. Sophomore
Olivia Butera fired five shots, including four on goal. Sophomore
Madi Chollett stopped two shots for her first win of the season.
Mary Riley made 11 saves in the setback for the Mount, who received four shots from Bridget McKeever.
The Ducks will be back in action for two games this weekend, welcoming Vassar College and New York University to town for the 13th installment of the Engineering Cup.
