Women’s Swimming uses strong individual swims to down Hartwick

  • Short Story: The No. 18 Stevens Institute of Technology women's swimming team used ten race victories to earn a 144-118 victory over hosting Hartwick College Saturday afternoon.

Top Finishers
  • Stevens opened the meet with a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. Sophomore Courtney Jones, juniors Kaitlynn Prescott and Sarah Jurczyk and senior Danielle Caruso teamed to touch the wall in 1:54.81.
  • Sophomore Samantha Geyer and freshman Isabella Fairman finished first and second in the 1000-yard freestyle. Geyer won the race in a time of 11:01.09.
  • Jones earned her first individual victory of the afternoon with a first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke. The sophomore won the race in 1:03.12.
  • Jurczyk claimed a victory in the 200-yard butterfly for her first individual performance of the dual meet, winning the race in 2:16.15.
  • Caruso continued the team's strong performance in the pool with a first-place showing in the 100-yard freestyle. The senior touched the wall in 55.70.
  • Prescott teamed with sophomore Laurie Prinz to earn first and second-place points in the 200-yard breaststroke. Prescott won the race in 2:33.79 and Prinz followed in 2:46.48.
  • The Ducks continued to show well in the freestyle swims, earning a first-place finish as Caruso won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:13.36, finishing over 14-seconds ahead of her closest competitor.
  • Jurczyk earned a first-place finish for the Ducks in the 100-yard butterfly. The junior won the race in 59.79.
  • Fairmain earned her first individual victory of the meet, winning the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:16.07. 
  • The Ducks closed out their strong afternoon in the pool by winning the 400-yard freestyle race with a time of 3:44.08, outtouching Hartwick at the wall.

  • "We are at a critical training point in the season, so it was great to see some good swims."
  • "With Hartwick being our last dual meet of the season, we are looking forward to preparing for the Empire 8 Championships."
