HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 21, 2017) – Junior midfielder
Andrew Masur netted the go-ahead goal as the Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team defeated Nazareth College 3-1 in an Empire 8 Conference match Saturday at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.
Juniors
Nikolai Figueroa and
Daniel Aversano also scored for Stevens, who improved to 9-5-2 on the season and 5-0-1 in conference play. The victory moved Stevens one step closer to a conference regular season title. An Alfred University loss or tie later this afternoon will clinch the Empire 8's regular season title and the number one overall seed in the conference championship for the Ducks.
Justin Pumputis tallied the lone goal for Nazareth, who fell to 9-5-1 on the season and 4-2 in league play. The Golden Flyers have secured a berth in the postseason tournament.

Pivotal Point
- With the teams knotted at 1, Stevens earned its fifth corner of the match in the 37th minute.
- Melendez played a crossing ball struck the ball from near-side corner of the pitch.
- Masur played the cross off his right foot, crossing the ball into the left corner for his second goal of the season.
Inside the Numbers
- Stevens improved to 14-0-1 all-time versus Nazareth. The Ducks have earned a victory in 11 straight matches.
- An aggressive Stevens offense outshot the Golden Flyers 25-5, including 10-1 in the second half. The Ducks held Nazareth without a shot over the final 37:10. The 25 shots marked a season-high.
- Aversano fired a match-high seven shots, including four on-net. Freshman forward Cristiano Hocken added five (including a match-high four on-net).
- Stevens earned six corners. Nazareth did not earn a corner.
- Junior Aaron Henry earned the victory, but did not make a save in doing so.
- Nazareth's Brian Wilkin made 11 saves in the loss.
- A physical contest, the teams combined for 30 fouls and six yellow cards.
Unsung Heroes
- Led by Boylan's efforts, the Ducks held the Golden Flyers to a mere five shots, eight below the team's season average. Stevens is allowing just 0.94 goals per match, good for second in the conference.
