ROCHESTER, N.Y. (October 23, 2017)  – Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball sophomore
Casey King was named Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week Monday after helping the Ducks clinch the league's regular season title with victories over Hartwick and St. John Fisher.
King totaled 24 kills on 55 attacks with just three errors (0.382 attack percentage) as the Ducks swept the Hawks and rallied to defeat the Cardinals in four sets to move to a perfect 8-0 in conference play. With the spotless conference record, Stevens earned the top seed in the E8 championship for the fifth straight season.Â
The Wallington, New Jersey native began the day by recording 11 kills without an error against Hartwick and then completed her day by adding 13 kills versus St. John Fisher. King also totaled five aces, four blocks and 13 digs. The outside hitter currently ranks 10th in the conference in hitting percentage (0.230), third in both kills (3.40/set) and aces (0.58/set), and third in points (4.16/set). King's 53 aces currently ranks 50th in Division III.
"Casey was an integral part of our success this weekend and throughout the entire regular season." head coach
Annie McShea said. "She's a steady force offensively and combined with her serving and defensive efforts, she's a great all-around player. We love having Casey on our side of the net and I'm happy she's earning this honor on the heels of her second Empire 8 regular season championship in as many years on the team."
It is the first career Player of the Week honor for King, who earned one E8 Rookie of the Week (Sept. 12, 2016) accolade en route to earning Empire 8 Co-Rookie of the Year honors last season. It is the third Player of the Week recognition for women's volleyball this season after senior libero
Sydni Horner (Sept. 5) and sophomore middle blocker
Sara Hain (Sept. 18) were previously recognized by the conference.
Up Next: Stevens heads to St. Davids, Pennsylvania for the Eastern University Invitational. The Ducks will play three non-conference matches at the event, beginning with a rematch of the 2016 Empire 8 Conference championship against Ithaca College. Contests with No. 6 Carnegie Mellon University and the hosting Eagles round out the weekend.
