HOBOKEN, N.J. (December 2, 2017) – Senior
Anna Toke recorded her second double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds and the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team forced 32 turnovers and blocked nine shots to hand previously unbeated Haverford College its first loss of the season with a 54-42 victory at Canavan Arena Saturday evening.
Senior
Megan Brown added nine points, six rebounds, four blocks and four steals for Stevens, who improved to 2-4 on the season. The victory avenged last season's 56-49 loss to the Fords in Pennsylvania in the first-ever meeting between the programs.
Sierra Berkel came off the bench to lead all players with 24 points on 9-of-16 shooting. Megan Furch added six points and a team-high 10 rebounds as Haverford fell to 6-1.
Turning Point
- After Haverford grabbed a 38-36 lead on a Macy Goldbach three-pointer, Stevens went on a 15-2 run over a 5:38 stretch in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach.
- Sophomore Alison Criswell scored on a layup and drew a Haverford foul to tie the game at 38.
- Toke snagged the rebound off the ensuing free throw and scored the putback basket to reclaim the lead for Stevens.
- The Ducks forced eight Haverford turnovers during the critical stretch and turned them into 11 points to break the game open.
Inside the Numbers
- The 32 forced turnovers led to 31 points for Stevens. Haverford converted 16 turnovers into 13 points.
- Haverford outshot Stevens 34.8 percent to 32.4 percent, but the Ducks held Haverford to only five field goals in the second half, including just one three-point field goal.
- The Fords outrebounded Stevens 43-35, but the Ducks held the edge on the offensive glass, 16-11. Stevens had the edge in second-chance points (12-9) and in points in the paint (26-24).
- Freshman Sam Winter pulled down a career-high six rebounds.
- Toke grabbed a game-high five steals. Brown and junior Megan Anderson each had four.
- Stevens scored first for the fifth straight game.
- Eight different players recorded a point for Stevens.
- Haverford went eight-for-eight from the free throw line.
