WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. (March 21, 2017) – Junior
Tommy Dawson scored three goals Tuesday night as the Stevens Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team dropped a 12-8 road decision to Williams.
The loss dropped Stevens to 5-3, while Williams moved to 4-0. Both teams entered the matchup receiving votes in the USILA top-25 national poll.
Freshman
Brendan Monteleone and sophomore
Eric Radbourne each scored twice, while senior
Jan Schoonen picked up six ground balls.
As a team Stevens went 13-for-15 on clears, and bested Williams in the faceoff margin, 13-11.
Each side traded goals over the first six minutes of regulation before Radbourne's score off a feed from sophomore
Dean Peluso moved Stevens ahead 2-1. Monteleone connected on a goal off sophomore
Max Bailey's pass to make it 3-2 with 6:04 remaining, but Williams provided the equalizer for the second time with just over three to play to tie the game at three.
Stevens and Williams once again traded goals to start the second, before Williams scored three unanswered to close out the second and take a 7-4 lead into the break. Man-up goals from senior
Tim Leahey and Dawson to start the second brought Stevens to within one, but Williams scored three of the next four to maintain its three-goal lead heading into the fourth.
Two more from Williams to start the final quarter put Stevens in a five-goal hole, where despite Dawson's goal with 4:02 to go, the Ducks were unable to climb out of as Williams held Stevens to just one shot over the final three minutes.
Stevens will conclude its three-game road swing Saturday when it opens its Empire 8 slate at Alfred.
