Stockton 5 Stevens 3
In the day's opener, the Ospreys scored three times in the fourth to grab a four-run lead and then held off a furious Stevens rally in a 5-3 victory.
Stevens opened the scoring in the second off Hannah Bibeault (5-3). Shirley singled up the middle to lead off the inning and promptly stole second. Gemma walked. Both runners advanced on a passed ball and then senior
Amanda DiLeo walked to load the bases. Junior
Marissa Barnes pushed a grounder to second, scoring Shirley with the first run of the game.
Stockton rallied for a pair of runs in its half of the second. Holly Arentowicz doubled down the left field line off LaRochelle (5-3) to lead off. Casey Schieda walked and Morgan DiVello reached on an infield bunt single. LaRochelle induced a fielder's choice from Nicole Petrovich for the first out of the inning, but pinch-hitter Alexis Dunphy singled down the right field to drive in two runs.
The Ospreys tacked on three addition runs in the fourth after a pair of errors helped load the bases without any outs. LaRochelle hit Danielle Lugo to force in a run. Maggie Klatt followed with an RBI groundout. Alexa Massa plated the third run with an infield hit. Arentowicz walked to again load the bases but the Stevens lefty fired a perfectly-placed pitch to Schieda and the third baseman missed out, fouling out to
Amanda DiLeo to end the inning. LaRochelle finished the day allowing five runs, two earned, in six innings.
The Ducks rallied off Bibeault in the sixth on Gemma's RBI double and and
Cara Napolitano's RBI single, but Stevens left the tying runs on base when
Emily Sellitti flew out to right.
Torp pitched a perfect seventh for her second save.Â
Stockton 1 Stevens 0
In the nightcap, Stockton grabbed an early 1-0 lead and Victoria Torp made the single run hold up in a 1-0 victory.
Carli Shaw led off with a single down the left field line and deftly stole second. The centerfielder advanced to third on Danielle Lugo's bunt single. After starter
Marissa Cappello (2-3) induced a fielder's choice, Alexa Massa lofted a sacrifice fly to center and a timely relay throw from
Katherine Tirabassi allowed the Ducks to double up Lugo at third. Morgan DiVello popped up to end the inning.
Torp (5-3) didn't allow a hit until junior
Farryl Groder's fourth-inning leadoff single. The Ducks had their best opportunity to score in the sixth.
Emily Sellitti pushed a single through the left side and moved to third when Lugo threw the ball away on Groder's sacrifice attempt. With runners at the corner and only one out,
Corinne Loncar connected on a Tarp pitch, but lined it right at first baseman Maggie Klatt, who was able to record the unassisted double play.
Cappello scattered six hits over six innings in her second complete game.
Up Next: Stevens returns to Weehawken Waterfront Park for a non-conference doubleheader with New York University Wednesday, March 29. First pitches are scheduled for 3:30 and 5:30 p.m.Â
