NEWARK, N.J. (April 13, 2017) – Freshman Gina DeOliveria delivered a fourth-inning RBI groundout, helping the Stevens Institute of Technology softball team earn a split of its non-conference doubleheader with Rutgers-Newark Thursday afternoon.

Farryl Groder and
Olivia Gemma also drove in runs for the Ducks, who finished the day with 19-11 record.
Brittany Kalesse had an RBI triple for the Scarlet Raiders, who moved to 10-16.

In the day's opener, starter
Olivia Gemma allowed two runs over four innings and the Ducks dropped game one to Rutgers-Newark, 2-1.

Olivia Gemma (6-2), scoring Kelly Yusko, who reached via a one-out double down the left field line.
Farryl Groder drove in the lone run for the Ducks.
After the Ducks left a pair of runners in scoring position in the opening inning, the Scarlet Raiders got on the board against Gemme on Samantha Hoffman's two-out, RBI single.
After allowing five hits over the first three innings, Yusko (7-10) settled down and retired the final nine batters she faced. The starter pitched a complete game, scattering seven hits and striking out three.
Christina LaRochelle pitched two scoreless innings in relief.

In game two, junior
Cara Napolitano scored on
Gina DeOliveira's groundout, propelling Stevens to a 3-2, come-from-behind win over the Scarlet Raiders.
Olivia Gemma collected two hits and scored a run for the Ducks.
Christine LaRochelle (9-3) allowed two runs on five hits to earn the victory.
Marissa Cappello struck out two over three scoreless innings to earn her third save.
Sarah Stiehler and Kayla Gallo had RBI singles for Rutgers-Newark.
Trailing 2-1, the Ducks scored two runs in the fourth to turn the tide. Gemma led off with a single to center off Morgan Walizer (3-6) and moved to second on
Farryl Groder's sacrifice.
Cara Napolitano singled to advance Gemma to third. Napolitano quickly stole second and then advanced to third when Sam Held's throw sailed into center, scoring Gemma on the play to tie the game. DeOliveira followed with a grounder to second, scoring the speedy designated player, giving the Ducks the lead. The RBI was the second of DeOliveira's career.
