Diplomats Edge No. 15 Women’s Soccer 1-0

LANCASTER, Pa. (September 2, 2017) – The No. 15 Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team, playing its second contest in 18 hours, fell in a tense 1-0 matchup with host Franklin and Marshall College on Saturday afternoon.

The Ducks had the better run of play on the afternoon, doubling up the Diplomats in both shots (15-8) and shots on goal (6-3), but were unable to find the back of the net.

Allison Klei scored the game's only goal in the 56th minute after a defender tried to clear the ball and it instead was deflected and found its way to her foot. Klei popped the ball into the right corner of the cage.

"That's the game sometimes - we created some good opportunities, but it always comes down to finishing," said head coach Jeff Parker. "We're struggling to put the ball in the net at the moment, but we feel like we have the personnel that can and will get better in that aspect. Hats off to F&M for finding a way to score and now we're focused on getting ourselves ready for the Engineering Cup next weekend."

Stevens' Lindsey Mahnken made two saves on the afternoon, but was outdueled by F&M's Gabby Panayotakis, who made six stops to earn the shutout victory.

Freshman Serena Shah put two shots on goal for Stevens, and Zisi Komar led the team with four total shots.

The Ducks will return home for the first time next weekend to host the 14th annual Engineering Cup. Up first is a matchup with Babson College on September 9 at 3:30 on Saturday.
