MADISON, N.J. (September 27, 2017) – Sophomore
Gabby Saade scored her third game-winning goal of the young season to provide the only offense in the No. 16 Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team's 1-0 victory over Drew University on Wednesday night. Lindsay Mahnken earned her fourth clean sheet of the season for the Ducks by stopping both Ranger shots on goal.
- The game's only goal came just 26 seconds into the match. Julia Panko sent a pass to Saade, who collected it and fired a shot into the left side of the cage for the early strike
- The assist was Panko's team-leading third of the season. She also leads the team with 11 points
- Stevens outshot the Rangers 12-7 in the game. The teams combined for just six total shots on goal (Stevens had four)
- The Ducks outshot Drew 8-3 in the first half, but the second half count was knotted 4-4
- Madison Dudziec had a nice night in goal for Drew with three saves, but was outdueled by Mahnken.
- Stevens earned two yellow cards in the game
"It was a usual, tough Jersey derby with Drew," said head coach
Jeff Parker. "The matches are always tough and Coach Racine does an excellent job. Got the early goal and were close on a few occasions to double it, but it's a difficult venue. We are fortunate to come away with the points and are now preparing for Elmira on Saturday."
The Ducks will return home as part of Athletics Alumni Day on Saturday when they host Elmira College in an Empire 8 battle at 11 a.m. to start the festivities.
