HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 30, 2017) – The No. 16 Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team thumped Empire 8 rival Elmira College 6-0 on Saturday as part of Athletics Alumni Day on Castle Point.
Gabby Saade had two goals and the Ducks earned their sixth shutout in nine games played this season.
Stevens did not allow a single shot in the second half and outshot the Soaring Eagles 35-3 in the match.
Lindsey Mahnken made three saves to earn the win, while
Erika McCarthy played the final 10 minutes between the pipes.
- Sophomore Julia Panko started the scoring just 2:34 into the match when she was sprung by a Katie Goncalves through ball. It held up till the end as the game-winning goal
- Saade got the next two markers in a row; the first had a double assist by both Olivia Butera and Kaitlyn Casiano, the second was helped by Sammy Mount
- Freshman Serena Shah netted the first goal of her career at 40:26 with an assist from Emily Damrell
- Taylor Schaad hit the post in the first half as well for the Ducks
- Senior Sammy Mount started the second-half-scoring with an assist from Schaad and Panko off the post and into the cage
- Finally, Misha Brewster provided the capstone at 89:02 when she cleaned up a PK that was saved and stuffed it in
- The match's corner kick count was 10-1 in favor of Stevens
- The Ducks have now won seven-straight matches
Women's soccer alumni
Salme Cook and
Christine Smith will be inducted into the Stevens Athletic Hall of Fame tonight as part of Athletics Alumni Day. Video coverage of the ceremony will be available on the Stevens Athletics Facebook page.
The women's soccer team will remain home to host Vassar College of the Liberty League on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
