EWING, N.J. (September 6, 2017) – Freshman
Cristiano Hocken's overtime goal sent the Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team past The College of New Jersey, 2-1, Wednesday.
In the 93rd minute, Hocken fired a ball towards the net, which ricocheted off the foot of a TCNJ defender. After being redirected, the ball floated high and awkwardly over the head of goalkeeper Michael Kayal into the net, sending the Ducks into a frenzied celebration on a wet and cold night at Lions Stadium.
It was the second goal of the match for the New Providence, New Jersey native, who beat Kayal in the 28th minute to open scoring for his first collegiate goal.
Junior
Aaron Henry made three saves for the second straight game to earn his second win of the year.
Nick Sample scored in the 70th minute to spoil Henry's bid for a clean shot. Kayal made two saves for the Lions, who fell to 2-1. After Sample's equalizer, difficult conditions and tight defense allowed for only a single shot on goal by either team, which was deftly snared by Henry. The Fayetteville, Arkansas native also recorded one save in overtime.
Stevens has won three of the last four meetings between the programs, including the last two.
