Men’s Hoops Alone in First After Downing Hartwick

HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 27, 2018) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team splashed 7-of-10 three-pointers in the second half to top Hartwick College 85-66 at home on Saturday. Spencer Cook poured in 26 points on 10-12 shooting to lead Stevens.

  • With the victory, the Ducks find themselves alone at the top of the Empire 8 standings heading into February.
  • The last time these two teams tangled, it was a triple-overtime thriller in Oneonta. On Saturday, Stevens squashed any drama early in the second half.
  • The Hawks led for the first seven minutes of game thanks to a pair of early threes, but Hartwick missed seven treys in a row to cough up the lead

By the end of the first half, the Ducks had built up a 38-30 lead, and the second half was even more lopsided, with a 47-36 split.

Spencer Cook had an incredibly efficient night, going 10-12 from the field, including 6-8 from the three-point line. He added four rebounds and three assists in just 21 minutes of work without committing a foul.

JoJo Mosca also reached double figures with 14 points for the Ducks.

Jake Krantz led the way with eight rebounds, while Michael Zignorski added eight points on 3-5 shooting.

Thomas Cook and Ryan Coffey added five rebounds each. The Ducks were their typical balanced selves, with 11 players in the scoring column and a total of 19 different players seeing action in the game.

The Ducks will travel north next weekend for back-to-back Empire 8 games against St. John Fisher College and Nazareth College. The trip starts at Fisher with a 6p.m. tip on Friday.
