No. 21 Men’s Soccer Tops Sage 2-1 to Remain Perfect in the E8

ALBANY, N.Y. (October 13, 2018)  – Senior Daniel Aversano and freshman Justin Kochman each found the back of the net to the lead No. 21 Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer to a 2-1 victory over The Sage Colleges Saturday in an Empire 8 Conference fixture at the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Field.

Aversano broke through in the 24th minute, heading in a crossing ball from freshman Adam Silva for his sixth goal of the season. The Upper Saddle River, N.J. native joins Silva atop the team leaderboard in goals and is closing in on his career-high of seven, set in his first season on Castle Point.

Kochman provided an insurance goal in the 72nd minute, knocking a loose ball past Mike Chiaravalloti to provide a two-goal cushion. The marker ended up become the game-winning goal when Kevin Winglosky beat senior Aaron Henry just 27 seconds later. Chiaravalloti made five saves for Sage, who fell to 4-7-1 and 2-2-1 in the Empire 8.

Henry earned his 10th victory for the Ducks, who improved to 12-2-1 and a perfect 5-0 in the conference. Stevens has won 12 or more in 17 of the last 18 seasons. The Ducks have not finished the regular season undefeated in conference matches since 2015 and last posted a perfect E8 season one year prior.

The match was a rematch of last season's dramatic Empire 8 Championship, won by Stevens in the 90th minute.

Inside the Numbers
  • Stevens outshot Sage 21-5, including a 7-1 margin in shots on net.
  • The Ducks dominated possession and held an 11-0 edge in corner kicks.
  • Senior Haddy Abdelhady led all players with four shots.
  • Henry continues to lead the league with a .525 goals against average.

Unsung Heroes
