Wanzor’s blast sends Women’s Soccer over Montclair State

HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 2, 2018)  – Freshman Ally Wanzor split a pair of defenders and buried a crossing ball from just inside the 18-yard box to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Montclair State University Tuesday evening in a non-conference match at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.

Senior Olivia Butera netted her first goal of the season after a free kick in the sixth minute for the Ducks, who won their fifth straight to improve to 7-2. Stevens has won each of the last three meetings between the programs to tie the all-time series, known as the Route 3 Derby, at 9-9-1.

Emily Beenders scored the lone goal of the match for the Red Hawks, and Lindsay Freewalt made 10 saves for the Red Hawks, who fell to 6-2-3.

Wanzor received a throw-in from senior Zisi Komar and wheeled towards the goal, before changing directions to split two defenders before crossing the 18-yard box. The Jackson, New Jersey native took a stride before striking the ball with her right foot to deliver a crossing ball into the opposite corner of the goal for her fourth marker of the season.
