ALBANY, N.Y. (October 6, 2018) – Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team defeated The Sage Colleges on Saturday 9-0 in an Empire 8 Conference match-up on Albany Academy Tennis Courts. The Ducks improve their record to 7-1 after recording their fourth perfect match sheet. The Gators drop to 5-7 on the season and 3-5 in the Empire 8.
The women's tennis team jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after sweeping the doubles flights. Senior
Julia Earl and sophomore
Makenna Sargis didn't drop a game in the No. 2 doubles flight to start the momentum for the Ducks. Senior
Sydney Zoretic and freshman
Alexis Fuda also posted a solid 8-0 win in the No. 3 doubles flight. Junior
Isabella Calandra and freshman
Agatha Malinowski recorded an 8-2 win in the first singles flight position and remain unbeaten on the season.
The winning continued in the singles flight with sophomore
Gabriella Tantillo and Sargis clinching the match win by posting impressive wins in their respective singles flights. The sophomore tandem only dropped a combined one game between both singles flights. Captain
Julia Earl was tested in the second set but won in tiebreaker 7-5 and secured the win in the second singles position. Malinowski, Calandra, and Fuda kept the Gators off the scoreboard by winning their respective singles flight in convincing fashion.
Up Next: Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team will face Elmira College on Sunday in an Empire 8 Conference match-up. Action is slated to start at 12:00 P.M.
