UTICA, N.Y. (October 7, 2018)  – Sophomore
Jaymie Fiebel banged home a loose ball in the 63rd minute to cap a three-goal rally as the Stevens Institute of Technology Field Hockey team to a 3-2 victory over Utica College Sunday in an Empire 8 Conference contest at Gaetano Stadium.
Junior
Michaela Thompson added a pair of goals for the Ducks, who won their fifth straight game to improve to 8-3 on the year and 3-1 in league play. Stevens is tied for second in the conference with St. John Fisher with four league games remaining. The five-game winning streak is the longest for the program since the team won six straight in 2015 en route to Field Hockey's fourth Empire 8 Conference championship and an NCAA appearance.
Rylee Meelan registered a pair of first-half goals for Utica, who fell to 4-8 on the year and 2-2 in the E8. The Pioneers have dropped five straight.
Freshman goalkeeper
Emily Franco recorded five saves to earn the victory and stopped Meelan twice with time expired after Utica was awarded two penalty corners.Â
Thompson began Stevens' comeback, scoring two goals 5:17 apart, with each goal coming after a penalty corner. The Ducks earned a season-high 17 penalty corners on the afternoon, against just six for Utica.
Following Thompson's game-tying goal, Fiebel found the back of the goal less than four minutes later, beating Megan Chamberlain off another penalty corner for her third goal of the season. Stevens scored all three of its goals off four penalty corners in a span of less than 10 minutes.
Chamberlain finished with eight saves.Â
