Men’s Basketball Tripped Up by Rutgers-Newark

HOBOKEN, N.J. (November 25, 2018)  – Senior Kevin Florio came off the bench to record a season-high 14 points, but the Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team fell to Rutgers University-Newark 75-64 Sunday in a non-conference game at Canavan Arena.

Senior Jayson Winick added 18 points on on 8-of-11 shooting and pulled down a team-high nine rebounds, while senior Ryan Coffey chipped in with nine points and six rebounds for the Ducks, who fell to 3-2.

Chase Barney scored 17 of his game-high 27 points in the second half and Tyler Ofray added eight points, six assists and 11 rebounds for the Scarlet Raiders, who improved to 3-1. Ofray's six helpers and 11 boards led all players.

Rutgers-Newark came out strong, taking a double-digit lead before the midway point of the opening stanza. Stevens used its long-distance shooting to trim the deficit to four on a Florio three. The Stamford, Connecticut native finished the afternoon with three triples.

  • The Scarlet Raiders quickly inbounded the ball and Barneys beat the defense down the court for a transition layup to push the lead back to nine.
  • A Mark Thomas layup 10 seconds later pushed the margin back to double figures. Thomas finished with 15 points.
