Taleen Mitchell and freshman
Kathleen Riegner each recorded double-doubles as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team fell in five sets to Nazareth College (20-25, 25-21, 25-21, 9-25, 6-15) in the Empire 8 Conference championship match Sunday afternoon at Canavan Arena.
Mitchell had 12 kills and 14 digs, while Riegner dished out 16 assists and 12 digs, as the Ducks fell to 23-10 on the year.
The Golden Flyers were led by Madison Joseph with 17 kills and E8 Tournament MVP Kelsey Milligan with 12 kills. Nazareth improved to 23-12 this season and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Volleys and Points
- Mitchell opened the scoring after setting down a pass from senior Brianna Perez.
- Stevens took a 9-3 lead after three aces from junior Shelby Stewart.
- The Golden Flyers scored five consecutive points to shorten Stevens lead, making the score 14-13.
