Efficient offense leads No. 18 Men’s Lacrosse over Endicott, 14-4

BEVERLY, MASS. (February 24, 2018)  – Sophomore Brendan Monteleone and junior Eric Radbourne each recorded a hat trick as the eighteenth-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team converted 23 shots on goal into 14 goals to defeat Endicott College 14-4 Saturday in a non-conference game at Hempstead Stadium.

Seniors Tommy Dawson and Bryan Rogers and freshman Ryan Gebhardt each recorded two goals for the Ducks, who built a four-goal halftime lead, before scoring six goals in the final period to break the game open. The victory was the second straight for Stevens to open 2018 and the third straight over the Gulls.

Andrew Soucy had a goal and an assist and Patrick Dean made nine saves for Endicott, who fell in its season opener.

"We got a great day from Carson White in goal and from [Nicholas Carnovale] at the face-off X in the first half," head coach Gene Peluso said. "It was nice to build a lead, and with some timely saves and a strong performance at faceoffs, we were able to do some good things."

Junior attackman Max Bailey recorded a goal and an assist, senior John Boutureira scored his fifth goal of the year, and freshmen Shawn Coulter and Max Ranaldi each recorded an assist for their first points of the year to round out the Stevens scoring. White made 13 saves to earn his second win of the year.

Defensively, six different players caused a turnover, with sophomore Alec Caseiro and junior Daniel Crotty each recorded three, helping the Ducks cause 10 Endicott miscues on the day. Junior Nicholas Carnovale went 9-6 in the faceoff X and led all players with six ground balls. Stevens held a 38-32 edge in ground balls on the afternoon. Although outshot on the day 36-30, Stevens held a 23-18 edge in shots on goal. The Ducks went 12-for-23 on clears and won 13 of 22 faceoffs.

"[The] defense should also be recognized for their play," Peluso added. "They really did a strong job in limiting the types of shots that Carson was seeing."

Monteleone and Radbourne opened the game's scoring, with Radbourne setting the Mountain Lakes, New Jersey native up for the first goal of the game. Radbourne scored the first two goals of the game in Stevens' season-opening win over Arcadia.

"Eric Radbourne was great today with both an early goal and an early assist," Peluso offered. "He had three great goals for us today."

Dawson's first of the game handed Stevens a 3-0 lead early in the second period, before Will Clark beat White for Endicott's first goal of the season. Dawson and Boutureira scored consecutive goals two minutes apart to give the Ducks a 5-1 lead at halftime. The Ducks were the only team to score in the third quarter with Bailey, Monteleone and Rogers finding the back of the net as the lead grew to seven.

"A great efficient day from Monteleone and Rogers with their shooting," Peluso said.

Soucy's tally opened the fourth-quarter scoring, however Radbourne and Monteleone scored two minutes apart, followed by consecutive goals from Radbourne and Rogers to thwart any hopes Endicott had for a comeback. Gebhardt scored back-to-back goals eight seconds apart to conclude the scoring.

Up Next: Stevens welcomes Springfield College to the DeBaun Athletic Complex on Saturday, March 3. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 pm.
