LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (March 15, 2018) – Sophomore
Kyra Bednarski tallied four goals and classmate
Emily Shanklin notched the first three goals of the game, but the Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team was edged 13-9 by No. 14 Amherst College on Thursday.
The Ducks earned a 5-4 lead at halftime.
Shanklin started Stevens off right with three-straight goals to open play in the first. Two came on free position shots and the other was assisted by
Cami Santor.
Bednarski popped in her first goal, and Santor lit the lamp with just nine seconds remaining in the first half to give the Ducks their halftime advantage. Stevens had actually fallen behind 5-1 in the first 12 minutes but scored the final four goals of the half unanswered.
Bednarski extended the lead with a free-position shot at 28:48 of the second and
Mackenzie Metzler scored unassisted at 23:58. Santor assisted Bednarski at 20:54 to make the count 8-5 Stevens.
Unfortunately for the Ducks, Amherst kept them off the board for nearly the next 20 minutes, as they earned the next eight goals to take control of the game before Bednarski finally stopped the slide with her final marker at 1:16.
Senior
Stephanie Schnelzer made 16 saves in the game for Stevens, setting a new career high while keeping the Ducks in the game until the final minutes.
Regan Littell,
Hannah Condren,
