No. 19 Women’s Lacrosse Dismantles Hartwick 19-4

ONEONTA, N.Y. (April 14, 2018)Emily Shanklin scored seven times and grabbed 10 draw controls as the No. 19 Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team thumped Hartwick College 19-4 on Saturday. Julianna Ricci added four goals, while Brianne Salera and Kyra Bednarski finished with hat tricks.

"We were happy to get back on the field and bounce back after our last outing," said head coach Celine Cunningham. "I was really pleased with the defensive effort the entire game today, and our attack had a solid second half that allowed us to take control of the game."

Stevens scored the first three goals of the game – the opening tally came just 12 seconds after the first whistle and the Ducks were off and running. Stevens added another three-goal burst late in the first period to take an 8-3 lead at the break.

Stevens' second period was even more dominant. The Ducks netted the first six goals of the half in only seven minutes to take all the drama out of the proceedings. Stevens capped the game on a 5-0 run with Shanklin scoring with just 23 seconds remaining.

The Duck defense was especially strong. They allowed just one second-half goal on seven shots. Stephanie Schnelzer played all 60 minutes and made six saves on her way to the win.

  • In addition to her three goals, Bednarski led the team with three assists
