No. 39 Men’s Tennis earns 8-1 win over Wilkes on Senior Day

  • Short Story: No. 39 Stevens Institute of Technology Men's Tennis swept all three doubles matches and earned victories in five of the six singles flights to earn an 8-1 win over Wilkes University Sunday at the Stevens Tennis Courts. The win was the fourth straight for Men's Tennis and snapped Wilkes' seven-match winning streak.
  • The records: Stevens: 11-9; Wilkes: 15-5
  • Of note: The match marked the final non-conference match of the season for the Ducks. Men's Tennis has a pair of Empire 8 Conference matches remaining on the schedule, followed by the conference championship. The E8 Championship will be hosted by Houghton College on May 4-5.
  • Also of note: The match marked the next-to-last home match for seniors Kyle Henry, William Persson, Danny Polk and David Schul and the quartet was honored for their career accomplishments on Senior Day.
    
How It Happened
  • Stevens gave up just eight points in earning three doubles points.
  • Polk and freshman Bryan Szayna and the senior tandem of Henry and Persson posted identical 8-2 victories 
  • The freshman duo of Keegan Morris and Mark Kanevsky completed the sweep with an 8-4 in the third position.
  • Polk, Persson and Schulz each posted straight-set victories to open singles play. Persson's 6-3, 6-2 victory in the second slot secured the match for the Ducks.
  • Wilkes claimed its only point of the afternoon with a three-set victory at No. 3 singles. Henry took a 6-0 decision in the opening set, before Jonathan White took the final two sets to win the point. 
  • Freshmen Gabriel Sifuentes and Arjun Krishman posted straight-set wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively, to close out the match scoring.

  • No. 39 Men's Tennis concludes the 2018 regular season with a pair of Empire 8 Conference contests against Hartwick and Utica on April 28. The Ducks have won 63 consecutive Empire 8 regular season matches. A victory against either opponent secures the eighth straight E8 title for men's tennis.
