Littell’s OT winner gives Field Hockey season-opening win over Ramapo

MAHWAH, N.J. (August 31, 2018)  – Senior Regan Littell snapped a 2-2 tie early in overtime to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology Field Hockey team to a 3-2 victory over Ramapo College Friday evening at the Ramapo Athletic Center.

Senior Hannah Silvestri and sophomore Skylar Migliaccio also scored for the Ducks, who improved to 4-1 all-time against the Roadrunners. The win snapped Stevens' eight-game losing streak in season openers. The Ducks' last victory in a season opener occurred on September 1, 2009, when Stevens defeated Haverford College, 3-2.

Jessica Cacoso scored twice and Samantha Stolker made 10 saves for Ramapo, who fell to 0-1.

Turning Point
  • Following a defensive save that thwarted a Ramapo possession, sophomore Skylar Migliaccio earned a penalty corner.
  • Stevens extended the possession and junior Michaela Thompson fed Littell for her first goal of the season.
  • The marker was the third career game-winner for the Arnold, Maryland native and her first since registering the deciding goal in a victory over Utica on September 24, 2016.

Inside the Numbers
  • Stevens finished with a 21-5 advantage on shots, including a 14-5 edge in shots on net.
  • The Ducks held a remarkable 14-3 edge in penalty corners.
  • Freshman Emily Franco made a pair of saves in her collegiate debut.
  • Silvestri led all players with six shots, including four shots on net.

Unsung Hero
  • Sophomore Anna Cooper recorded a defensive save on Victoria Ewanis' shot in overtime. The save was the fourth career defensive save for the Oceanport, N.J. native .
