No. 21 Swarthmore downs Women’s Soccer

SWARTHMORE, Pa. (September 2, 2018)  – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team was defeated by No. 21 Swarthmore College Sunday by the score of 2-0, in a non-conference fixture at Clothier Field.

Despite being outshot on the day, the Garnet made both of their first half shots count, scoring twice in the opening 45 minutes. Marin McCoy and Brittany Weiderhold scored for Swarthmore, who improved to 2-0. Stevens held a 12-5 edge in shots, including a 10-3 advantage in the second half.

Sophomore Taylor Shaad led Stevens with three shots and five different recorded a shot on goal. The Ducks fell to 1-1. It was the first meeting between the programs.

Turning Point
  • With the teams battling to secure a loose ball in front of the net, a bouncing ball was headed in by Marin McCoy past the reach of goalkeeper Izzy DiDario.

Inside the Numbers
  • Stevens held a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Ducks held Swarthmore to one shot on goal over the final 45 minutes.
  • The teams combined for five corners, with Swarthmore claiming one more than Stevens (3-2), although neither team earned one in the first half.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Izzy DiDario made one save.

  • "Tough results for us here at Swarthmore. We were able to do a lot of the things we wanted, but unfortunately, they didn't lead to a result on the scoreboard today. Our opponents made the most of their chances and that ended up being the difference."
