HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 26, 2018) – Senior
Zisi Komar and freshman
Ally Wanzor each recorded a goal to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Drew University Wednesday in a non-conference fixture at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.
Freshman
Izzy DiDario made a pair of saves to earn her second career clean sheet as Stevens won its third straight match to improve to 5-2. The Ducks have won each of the last four meetings between the programs.
Komar opened the scoring in the 28th minute, converting a
Gianna Nitti cross into the right side of the net. The goal was Komar's second of the year, giving the San Diego, California native 10 points. Komar is third all-time in program history with 104 career points and currently ranks among the nation's leaders in assists. The assist was Nitti's first collegiate point.
Madison Dudziec made six saves for Drew, who fell to 5-2-2. The Stevens win snapped Drew's seven-match unbeaten streak.
Turning Point
- Although Komar's first-half marker opened scoring, Wanzor's tally put the match out of reach.
- Gilgorri attempted to clear the ball from danger, with the ball ending up on Wanzor's foot. The Jackson, New Jersey native quickly floated the ball over Dudziec from outside the six-yard box for her third goal of the year.
- The two-goal cushion, paired with Stevens' aggressive play proved to be too much to overcome.
Inside the Numbers
- Stevens outshot Drew 17-3 for the match, including a decisive 10-0 mark in the second half.
- Junior Julia Panko led all players with five shots, while senior Olivia Butera fired a match-high four shots on net.
- A stingy defense held Drew's top two scorers, Sarah Racine and Alex Gilgorri, without a shot.
- The Ducks outearned the Rangers 11-1 in corners.
Unsung Heroes
- Aggressive play in the midfield kept the play in Stevens' attacking third for most of the match.
