HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 29, 2018)  – Junior
Ireland Tawney registered two goals and two assists for a career-high six points and sophomore
Anna Cooper matched a program record with three defensive saves as the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team defeated Houghton College 5-2 Saturday in an Empire 8 Conference game at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.
Sophomores
Skylar Migliaccio and
Brynn Froehlich also found the back of the net for the Ducks, who won their fourth straight game. Freshman
Alyssa Appleby also scored as Stevens moved to 7-3 on the year and 2-1 in the conference.
Caitlin and Nicole Jennings each scored for Houghton, who fell to 2-7 on the year and 0-4 in league play. Sarah Olandt made eight saves for the Highlanders, who have dropped four straight. Freshman
Emily Franco made one save to earn the victory for Stevens.
Tawney began her career day with a goal in the ninth minute after a penalty corner. Migliaccio took the corner to begin the play and senior
Hannah Silvestri fired a ball from the right edge of the circle that Tawney was able to tip in from Olandt's left side. The Hopkinton, New Hampshire assisted on Stevens' third and fourth scores and then completed her performance by converting an
Allison Buffenbarger pass after another penalty corner.
Cooper's defensive efforts matched
Briana DeGraaf's three defensive save-performance against Utica on Nov. 8, 2014. The Oceanport, New Jersey native recorded all three saves in the second half and moved into fourth place on the career list. Each of the three saves was made under different circumstances, including a spectacular save against Samantha Hirsch, where Cooper appeared to reach back and rob Hirsch of a sure-fire goal.
