HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 18, 2019) – Ten different players recorded at least one point as the Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball defeated Houghton College 73-48 Friday night in an Empire 8 Conference matchup at Canavan Arena.
Sophomore
Alec DiPietrantonio recorded a team-high 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting and junior
Dylan Walsh and senior
Ryan Coffey also reached double figures as Stevens opened up as much as a 34-point lead in topping the Highlanders for the 12th time in 13 meetings.
Freshman
Sashank Sindhia came off the bench to record a career-high nine points as Stevens received over half its points (38) from the bench in winning its second straight game. The Ducks improved to 13-4 on the year and moved to 6-2 in the Empire 8 Conference.
Isander Ramos-Net led all players with 17 points and Akil Grampus posted a double-double with 12 points and 16 rebounds for the Highlanders, who fell to 1-14 on the year and 0-6 in league play. Houghton has dropped six straight.
All 14 active players recorded at least one point or one rebound for Stevens as the Ducks did not have a player play more than 19 minutes.
Pivotal Point
- Houghton took its only lead of the game (7-6) after an Isander Ramos-Net fast-break layup.
- Stevens responded with a 10-0 lead to take control of the game, reclaiming the lead on its next possession on a Kevin Florio jumper.
- Coffey drained back-to-back threes and Walsh closed the run with a layup to put the home team comfortably in front.
Inside the Numbers
- Stevens outshot Houghton, 42.2 percent to 26.7. The Ducks nearly 50 percent of their attempts (16-of-34) in the first half.
- The Ducks made exactly nine three-pointers for the second straight game. The Ducks held the Highlanders to 6-for-24 from behind the arc, including 1-of-11 over the final 20 minutes.
- Houghton won the battle of the boards 45-41. It was just the third time this season that Stevens was outrebounded and the first since Nov. 20.
- Houghton's 48 points was a season-low by a Stevens opponent.
- Senior Kevin Florio and freshman Nate Carpenter each snagged a game-high three steals.
- Four different Ducks recorded a block.
- Eleven Ducks recorded an assist as Stevens totaled 17 on the evening.
- Junior John Nutatis pulled down a career-high five rebounds to lead the Ducks.
