Women’s Basketball Rallies From First Half Deficit to Top Utica

HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 5, 2019)  – Freshman Jess Broad scored 13 of her 17 points in the second half as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team rallied from behind to top Utica 53-44 in Saturday afternoon's Empire 8 conference matchup at Canavan Arena.

Sophomore Maddi Hahn added 14 points for the Ducks, who improved to 7-4 on the year and a perfect 2-0 in E8 action.

Sydney Pryzgoda recorded a double-double for the Pioneers after finishing with 15 points and 20 rebounds. Utica fell to 6-5 this season and 1-1 in the conference.

The Pioneers outscored Stevens 18-8 in the first quarter, led by Nicolette Conkin with two three-pointers. The Ducks began to claw back in the second quarter, ending on a 6-0 run and outscoring their opponent 12-9, but still headed into halftime trailing by seven.

Stevens began the third quarter on another 6-0 run, not allowing the Pioneers to put a point on the board until 5:37 when Pryzgoda tallied a free throw. With the Ducks down by one, Hahn drew a foul after a hard drive to the basket. The Mickleton, New Jersey native made both of her foul shots to tie the game 28-28.
