HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 2, 2019) – Six different players found the back of the net, including senior
Michaela Thompson who scored twice, as the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team defeated Cabrini 7-1 to win their sixth straight game Wednesday at DeBaun Athletic Complex.
The six-game winning streak now matches the most consecutive wins for the Ducks since the 2015 season when they finished 14-8 and won the Empire 8 Conference Championship. After starting the year 2-3, Stevens now sits at 8-3 on the year.
For Cabrini, meanwhile, Maura Tumelty scored the first goal of the game in the third minute as the Cavaliers dropped to 1-9 on the season.
Thompson was able to produce a pair of goals in the 30th and the 36th minutes to give the Ducks a 4-1 lead heading into halftime. It is her first multi-goal game of her career.
After falling behind 1-0, the Ducks responded quickly with goals from freshman
Natalie Logan and junior
Brynn Froehlich in the 10th and 16th minutes, respectively.
Coming out of the break, sophomore
Alyssa Appleby and junior
Jaymie Fiebel scored less than one minute apart in the 51st and 52nd minutes to put the game away for the Ducks.
Sophomore
Hannah Sikorski capped the match with her second career goal and first of the season in the 57th minute to give Stevens its seventh and final goal, matching the season high set against Drew on September 25.
Turning Point
- Leading 2-1 in the contest, Thompson was able to truly put the game away for Stevens with back-to-back goals off penalty corners in a five-minute span.
- Junior Skylar Migliaccio set up the first goal for Thompson in the 30th minute, passing the ball to her at the top of the circle on the set piece.
- The senior from Manasquan, N.J., blasted a shot into the right side of the cage for her third goal of the season.
- Thompson's second goal happened much like the first, this time with the assist coming from sophomore Aryana Muscara on a penalty corner.
- In the 36th minute, Thompson found space off an entry pass once again and did not hesitate to deposit the ball into the left side of goal to double her season goal total from two to four.
Inside the Numbers
- The Ducks held a clear edge in nearly every offensive category, including a 29-12 advantage in total shots and a 17-7 edge in shots on goal.
- Fiebel and Allison Buffenbarger led the way for Stevens offensively, both taking a team-high five shots. Fiebel, meanwhile, had the team lead in shots on goal with four.
- Migliaccio, Emma Brunet, Appleby and Muscara all produced an assist in the victory.
- Sophomore Emily Franco produced four saves in goal and has now allowed just 1.0 goal per game in the Ducks' six-game winning streak.
- With a win on Saturday, Stevens would match the longest win streak since the historic 2009 season when the Ducks finished 17-8 overall en route to their second straight E8 Title.
Unsung Heros
- Migliaccio and Brunet played a pivotal role for the Ducks tonight, both producing their first assists of the season.
- For Brunet, the assist was the first point of her career.

- "We made some good game time adjustments and really executed on our game plan. We have so many players who are hungry to score, and a defensive unit who backs that up."
