Cooper Nets Game-Winner in Overtime to Give Field Hockey Seventh Straight Victory on Senior Day

Ducks Honor Seniors Emily Sneddon, Ireland Tawney and Michaela Thompson in Pre-Game

HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 5, 2019) – Junior Anna Cooper scored her first goal of the season with less than two minutes remaining in overtime to lift the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team to a 2-1 victory over Delaware Valley University Saturday at DeBaun Athletic Complex.

In the 69th minute of the contest, Cooper received a pass from sophomore Va'Shayna Williams and made a move into the circle. The junior from Oceanport, New Jersey, took a shot from the edge of the circle that crossed the face of the goalkeeper, hit the right post of the cage and spun in to give the Ducks their seventh straight victory and improve their record to 9-3, 2-0 in MAC Freedom play.

For the Aggies, Samantha Collyer was able to tie the contest with a goal in the 58th minute, but it was not enough as they fell to 4-7, 0-2 in the MAC Freedom.

The seven consecutive wins ties the longest win streak for the Ducks since 2009 when Stevens finished 17-4 and won the Empire 8 championship.

With the score tied 0-0, junior Jaymie Fiebel gave Stevens the lead in 49th minute of the fourth quarter when she deflected a pass from Alyssa Appleby into the left side of the net.

Prior to the contest, the Ducks honored seniors Emily Sneddon, Ireland Tawney and Michaela Thompson for their careers at Stevens.

Inside the Numbers
  • Stevens held a distinct edge on the offensive side of the ball, taking 34 total shots compared to just 12 for Delaware Valley.
  • The Aggies' goalie Rosie Bishop was phenomenal in net, registering 16 total saves and allowing just two goals in 69 minutes of action.
  • The Ducks have now won four consecutive one-goal games and hold an overall record of 6-2 this season in games decided by one score.
  • Junior Skylar Migliaccio led the Ducks offensively with a career-high eight total shot, four of which were on goal.
  • The goal for Fiebel was her fourth of the season, tying her for third on the team in goals as well as points this season.
  • Sophomore Emily Franco continued her stellar play in goal, allowing just one score for the second straight contest. Franco has allowed just 1.0 goal per game in the Ducks' seven-game winning streak.
Unsung Heros
  • The Ducks defensive backline, led by Aryana Muscara, was fantastic once again, giving up just four total shots on goal in the contest.
