Women’s Volleyball Pushes Win Streak to Nine with Victories over Vassar, Lebanon Valley

Casey King Produces Double-Digit Kills in Both Matches

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team extended their winning streak to nine matches Saturday with victories over Vassar College and Lebanon Valley to close their regular season at the Vassar Tri-Match.

The Ducks got double-digit kills in both matches from senior Casey King as they defeated Vassar 3-1 (25-13, 20-25, 25-20, 25-16) and Lebanon Valley 3-0 (25-8, 25-16, 25-12) to move to 18-11 on the season as they head into postseason competition.

With the loss, Vassar dropped to 7-18 overall while LVC moves to 16-14 this season.

King started the day with a double-double with 15 kills while hitting .455 in the victory over the Brewers and followed it up with 13 kills and a .500 attack percentage against the Dutchmen. The 2017 Empire 8 Co-Player of the Year finished the day with only one attack error in 57 attempts.

Sophomore libero Elizabeth Chu led the way defensively for the Ducks, producing 14 digs in the first contest and 12 in the second to give her 12 consecutive matches with double-digit digs.

Volleys and Points (Match One)
  • The Ducks came out of the gates firing on all cylinders in the opening set against Vassar, scoring 11 of the first 13 points to take an early nine-point edge.
  • After Vassar fought back to cut the deficit to 15-8, Stevens put the contest away for good with a 5-1 run to extend the lead to 11.
  • With the score 24-13, King was able to rise up and put down her fourth kill of the match.
  • The Brewers flipped the script in the second set, scoring the first five points to race out to an early lead.
  • Trailing 16-9, the Ducks climbed back into match with a 5-1 run followed by five straight points to make the score 20-19 late in the set.
  • Vassar then rallied to win five of the final six points of the set to grab a 25-20.
  • In the third set, the Brewers jumped out to an early 4-1 lead, but the Ducks were able to respond with a 6-1 run of their own to take a 10-8 edge.
  • Tied at 19 late in the set, Stevens pulled away with a 6-1 run to take home the set 25-20.
  • The Ducks were able to jump out to an early 9-4 lead in the fourth and final set.
  • Leading 17-13, Stevens turned to seniors Sara Hain and King who registered five of the final 11 points of the match to complete the 3-1 victory.
Inside the Numbers (Match One)
  • Stevens his .285 in the match overall, including registering a .455 attack percentage in the opening set and a .357 total in the fourth set.
  • Vassar, meanwhile, hit just .150 overall in the match while also producing a .355 hitting percentage in the second set win.
  • Sophomore Kathleen Riegner racked up her ninth double-double this season with 38 assists and 10 digs in the match.
  • King, Hain and freshman Allie Morton all had double-digit kills in the contest as Hain and Morton both produced 12 in the contest.
  • After beginning the day with only seven service aces on the season, Morton produced a career-high six service aces in the victory.
Unsung Hero (Both Matches)
  • Jillian Roumbanis finished the day with 10 digs defensively to go along with three assists.

  • "We're really pleased to have finished the regular season so strong. We feel like we're playing as a team and we're peaking at the right time. We're excited to bring this momentum to postseason play next week."

  • The Ducks will turn their attention to postseason play as they will be the #1 seed for the MAC Freedom Tournament.
  • Stevens will host #4 Misericordia in the semifinal contest Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. inside Canavan Arena.
