No. 2 Men's Volleyball Falls to No. 10 Kean

UNION, N.J. (February 1, 2019)  – Junior David Lehman registered a team-high 12 kills as the No. 2 Stevens Institute of Technology Men's Volleyball team fell to No. 10 Kean University in three sets (25-22, 25-17, 25-22) Friday in a non-conference match at Harwood Arena.

Senior Dylan DeBoer added 10 kills for the second straight game, while classmate Jacob Patterson registered a team-high 18 assists. The Ducks fell to 3-1 on the year. 

Kamil Garbowski totaled a match-high 15 kills and Ian Capp dished out a match-high 27 assists for Kean, who improved to 6-3 this season.  

Volleys and Points
  • Stevens opened the first set with a 3-2 lead after two attack errors by Kean and a kill from DeBoer.
  • The Cougars took a 5-3 lead after the Ducks committed two attack errors and Garbowski set down a pass from Capp.
  • Stevens regained the lead after two more errors by the Cougars and another DeBoer kill made the score 12-11. 
  • Kean answered with two Garbowski kills and an ace by Capp to take a 14-12 lead.
  • The Ducks tied the set up at 21 after a service error by Capp.
  • A kill by Garbowski followed by two Ducks' attack errors put Kean at set point. 
  • Capp registered another service error to bring Stevens within three. 
  • Garbowski delivered a kill to score the final point of the set.
  • After a kill by Jonathan Frenzel, the Cougars went on a 7-0 run that included three aces and two kills. 
  • After a service error by Capp, DeBoer and senior Cooper Diamond each delivered kills to bring Stevens within three. 
  • Kean went on another 6-0 run to take a 13-4 lead. 
  • The Ducks came back within four points after three consecutive errors by the Cougars. 
  • Sophomore Ryan Byrne delivered back-to-back kills to help chip away at Stevens' deficit.

  • Lehman and freshman Stedman van Arsdale each set down passes from Patterson, but a kill by Jacob Milnazik finished the set. 
  • The Cougars took an early 8-4 lead in the final set.

  • With the Cougars up 20-14, the Ducks went on a 5-0 run capped of by back-to-back kills from DeBoer to come within one point. 
  • A Stevens' service error followed by Garbowski kill put Kean up 22-19.
  • Kills from both DeBoer and Lehman brought Stevens within one. 
  • Garbowski delivered a kill followed by an ace to bring the Cougars one point away from victory. 
  • Lehman continued to attack and set down a pass junior Grant Burden to keep the Ducks within two.

  • Stephen Zarzycki set down a pass from Capp to close out the match.

  • Frenzel and Lehman each recorded an ace
  • Diamond registered one block and two block assists on the night. 
  • Kean outhit the Ducks .321 to .146. 
  • The Cougars' strong net presence totaled 12 blocks.
  • Patterson tallied a team-high five digs. 
  • Stevens held the edge in digs, 26-22.
  • Kean handed out 38 assists, while the Ducks dished out 32.
  • van Arsdale finished with two kills on three attacks for a .667 hitting percentage.
  • The Ducks were held to an .000 hitting percentage in the second set. 
  • Jonathan Meyer led Kean with eight digs.
